Christopher R. Maddern, LEED® AP
As an entrepreneur with a focus on sustainability, Chris founded Energy Solutions International in 2007 to reduce the impact existing real estate had on the environment. His company was able to design a specific template for energy reduction in existing buildings utilizing both innovative and effective technologies while implementing practical initiatives that change how management staff maintains capital equipment and other key building systems.
In 2008 Chris published Eco:vative Ideas for Your Home, Your Office, Your Life. The book detailed simple, inexpensive steps that could promote a more sustainable lifestyle and reduce expenses throughout the year. The book was written to accompany speaking engagements and workshops that Chris gave for small business owners and organizations like Accion, a microfinance group for small and minority-owned businesses. He also worked with low and middle-income residents as well as students in Harlem schools to help reduce the amount families paid for energy each month. Chris was also featured in Entrepreneur for his work with ‘Green’ Gyms, reducing local fitness clubs’ environmental impact while increasing the comfort for gym patrons.
In 2009 Chris began working with developing countries to assist in reducing their reliance on fossil fuels. Most notably, Chris traveled to Cuba in May of 2009 to begin work on low income, sustainable housing for hurricane victims. Chris now works for Summit Energy Services, assisting facilities in budget management, risk analysis and sustainability projects in the Northeast.
Over the years, Chris has worked with more than 5 million square feet of hotels, hospitals and conditioned space in the US and internationally. He is now studying for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in April of 2011 to continue his knowledge and passion for making the built environment a better environment.
